Jerry, Neil, Joseph and JT fished an all day trip on the Sneaky today. We decided to head south to some warmer water and chum for Sharks. It turned out to be one of the best Shark trips of the year with big Blacktips, Spinners and a nice Hammerhead. No little Sharpnose today and I lost count of how many large coastal sharks we caught. Joseph was one of the best junior anglers I’ve ever seen and you wouldn’t believe the way he manhandled these big sharks!. Jerry caught a Blacktip well over 100lbs! Thanks for a great trip guys.
Rich Bennett and Crew
This afternoon Rich Bennet and his crew went out with Drum as our target. We were determined to catch them on light tackle and the fly rod. Windy conditions made it tough for the fly and we had some bad luck with our hookups. Hooked 5 puuled the hook on 3, broke one off and got one nice 30 inch fish to the boat for a release. These guys were great anglers but the conditions and luck were against us. Thanks guys you worked hard for it and we will do better next time.
Had Matt, Alex, Steve and Shannon on the Sneaky this morning. We caught some Spot, Croaker and small flounder first then went for some Drum. They all had a blast catching overslot Red Drum to 33 inches and we got one 26 inch keeper! Matt and Alex were great anglers for such young men. Thanks guys, had a ball!
John and Elia
Had John and Elia aboard today and we had a blast! Caught lots of sharks chumming then went looking for a Cobia but we only saw one little one. Decided to look …for Drum and we caught a few on bait then found several schools of over slot fish and doubled up several times sight casting to them. Fun day with a couple of great guys.
Dylan and the gang
Had a great time with Dylan, Dana, Andrew and Bill from Atlanta and Toronto, Canada. We struck out on the Drum in the morning but had tons of action chumming in the ocean. We caught Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks non stop and Dylan also caught a big remora on a trout rod. The big score was a nice Cobia that we had swimming around the boat till we got him. Great job guys!
Had Mark Briggs and his crew from Gastonia NC for an afternoon trip on Thursday. They wanted to catch some sharks so we headed out and did some chumming. We had steady action with Sharpnose, caught a nice Hammerhead and ended with a 125lb Spinner. Scott fought him for about 40 minuites while the other guys caught sharpnose one after another. Only got his tail in the pic but he was a big boy.Fun trip with a great bunch of guys!
Last few days
Monday we caught Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks, Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish.
Tuesday mornings trip we caught Blues and a couple Spanish. Tuesday afternoon got really breezy but we managed a few Blues and one Shark for Marylin and the girls.
Wednesday we had some good Drum action with Zach and his crew.
Wednesday afternoon we had John and the girls and we did some trolling and chumming. Caught a few Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish and a Bonita Mackerel on the troll. We also caught a big Blacktip and a small 30lb spinner shark chumming. That little spinner put on a show and faught much bigger than his size. Curtis wasn’t feeling well so he stayed behind this time. Hope you feel better soon Curtis!
Thursday and Friday
Friday Drew and his crew from Pennsylvania had a fun day catching sharks. We looked around for a Cobia for a while then went looking for Drum. We found them but had a hard time getting them to bite. They wanted to head in a little early but with a little more time im sure we would have gotten a few.
My good friends Marvin and Patty Mason fished thursday along with my new friend Eric. We had good shark fishing early then we trolled and looked for a cobia. Ended the day bottom fishing and caught lots of pigfish and a few spot and croakers. Thanks for helping me load up the bait pen guys!
John, Noah, Chris and Randy were jacked up to catch big sharks today but the northeast wind made the ocean too rough for us to safely fish out there. We fished …in the sound instead and caught some flounder then went looking for Drum. We found them and had some great sightfishing! All fish were released. Thanks for making the best of the breezy conditions today guys
Brian and Ali
Had Brian and Ali today and it was a great trip. We caught Spanish, big sharks, a nice gaffer dolphin and ended the day with 8 Red Drum on trout rods sight fishing on the flats. Brian and Ali casted to these beauties! Ali caught a nice Hammerhead and Brian caught a Spinner Shark that was around 100lbs. What a day!
Jake Bret and Jay
Jake and Bret came back and fished with me again today after our great trip on Thursday. They brought Jay along and he caught a really nice Dolphin on a trout rod. We had one other Dolphin and released countless big Blacktip Sharks and got a few Sharpnose. keepimg a couple for the grill this morning. This Afternoon Randy and his boys had steady action with Blacktips but Max wasn’t feeling well so we headed in early. Thanks guys!
Cobia and Sharks
Today Matt, John, and Belinda got a workout! We caught some of the biggest Blacktip Sharks I’ve ever seen. Out of 10 Blacktips several had to be over 100 pounds. We also caught a nice Hammerhead, a couple Browns and a few Sharpnose. The kicker was a 30lb Cobia at the end of the morning trip for the grill. Thanks for a great morning guys!
Had Jake, Paul, Landon and Bret out today and it was a great one! We caught 12 big Spinner Sharks between 70 and 150 pounds with most being over 100. We also caught Blacktips, browns and some Sharpnose sharks for the grill. At one point we had 3 100lb plus spinners on at the same time. The guys did a great job fighting them and keeping them from tangling each other. The best part was catching some big Mahi Mahi on trout rods with 8lb test. Lots more pics to come.
Sharks Spanish and Dolphin
Had Jeff and his crew from Pennsylvania today and we had a great trip. We caught some nice Spanish Mackerel, a Mahi Mahi, released several Blacktips up to 50 lbs, Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks, a borderline keeper Cobia that we let go and ended the day with a Spinner Shark that was easily 200lbs. The spinner jumped about 5 foot out of the water on the hookset and we chased him for about an hour and a half before releasing him. More pics to follow.
Sunday Funday!
Today we fished in the sound on a breezy but pretty day. Jim, Greg, Jeff and Ian caught a dozen or more flounders with 2 beautiful 19 and 20 inch keepers, Sea M…ullets, Bluefish, Puffers, 6 Grey Trout with one nice one and lots of Croakers, Pigfish and Pinfish. No sea Monsters but we caught fish all day and had tons of fun. Thanks for a great day guys!
Michael Hughes and the boys
Had Michael Hughes and the boys on Wednesday. It was a bit sporty in the morning with showers and thunderstorms so we waited it out and it turned into a beautif…ul day. With the overcast conditions we decided chumming was our best bet. We caught one 32″ Cobia, a Hammerhead, several Brown Sharks and a bunch of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks. Released everything but a few Sharpnose for the grill. The boys did a great job and even jigged up a bunch of threadfin shad for bait. Thanks for a fun day Guys!
Tuesday morning with Jack Fourtney
Teusdays morning trip started off with an attempt to catch Sheepshead for the first time this year. We hooked a big one on the first drop but he got away then we couldn’t hook another one after an hour of fishing. We decided to chum for sharks and hope for a Cobia. The sharks didn’t disappoint but we never got a Cobia in the slick. Thanks for a fun morning Jack!
Found some drum yesterday in the surf around Jeanette’s Pier but they were too far out to reach with a jig. Decided to run over to Whalebone Tackle and grab a few Hopkins Shortie spoons because they will cast a mile and stay down in heavy current. Turned out to be a good move! Ended up catching 9 Drum from 27 to 32 inches on trout tackle with 8lb test. The right gear for the right situation makes all the difference. Sound fishing for the drum is picking up too and last year when we started catching them in the surf we also started killing them in the sound around Oregon Inlet with some 50 fish plus days.
Trout and Bluefish
Plenty of nice sized Bluefish around Oregon Inlet this week. There has also been a much better showing of Speckled Trout around Manteo and the sloughs between the inlet and Nags Head. Some of the Trout have been up to 21 inches! Got a really good report of lots of Trout just south of us that are heading this way. Stripers are starting to leave the rivers after the spawn and quite a few have been caught in our area as well. The pic is of Sean Pennington fighting a nice Bluefish at Oregon Inlet on the “Sneaky”.
