Saturday afternoon Jim, Jim and Elaine
started off catching nice Bluefish on light tackle. After catching all we wanted we went looking for Trout. The water was still a bit cool after some chilly weather the last few days but we did catch a few Trout with one keeper, a 21″ Striper and a Flounder that just missed the keeper mark. Fun afternoon with a great group from West Virginia!

Saturday morning
This morning Mike Dan and Kent had some great action on light tackle. We caught lots of nice 2 pound average bluefish casting jigs. We went to look for Trout later in the morning but the water was cold after the northeast winds the last few days only came up with a few small Rockfish. Thanks for a fun morning guys!
Monday with Jerry Roy
Another one man charter with Jerry Roy today and we had great fishing in the sound. We had steady action with lots of Speckled Trout catching 4 nice keepers, a keeper Flounder, a few nice Bluefish and several small Striped Bass. Really fun day with a great guy. Thanks Jerry!
Sunday morning with Stephen Reeves
Steven Reeves took a one man half day trip this morning and we had great action! We caught lots of Speckled Trout with 4 keepers from 15 to 17 inches, 6 nice 2 pound average bluefish, 2 flounders that just missed the keeper mark and lots of small Stripers all casting artificiials. The highlight of the morning was when Stephen hooked a bluefish that was at least 14 pounds! He bit through the light fluorocarbon leader after a good fight but it was the biggest blue I’ve seen in years! fishing continues t
o improve every ay as the water warms.
Good Trout fishing Cobias on the way!
The Speckled Trout fishing has started to heat up with some quality keeper sized fish showing up this week! We are also hearing good reports from just south of us that the Cobia are showing up and they should be in range within a couple weeks as the water warms up. Prime time for Cobia is normally may 15th to June 20th as they make their yearly migration through our waters. Cobia are the biggest, hardest fighting fish we catch in our inshore waters averaging around 35 pounds apiece with the larger ones going 60-90 pounds. They are also excellent eating fish with delicious white flaky meat. We sight fish casting jigs to these beasts on light tackle and it is some of the funnest most exciting fishing of the year.
Trout fishing should also improve over the next few weeks as well as Flounder, Blues, Red Drum, Sea Mullet, Spanish Mackerel and more as the water warms. Speckled Trout are also an excellent eating fish but we also practice catch and release for smaller fish and for people who don’t want to take fish home with them. This early sign of Trout is the best we’ve seen in 3 years!
Wednesday with Jeff and Don
Today Jeff and Don had a good morning trip fishing for Speckled Trout in the sound. We had quite a few keepers in the 15 to 17 inch range and had several other nice ones pull the hook. The Trout had Sea Lice on them which is a good sign that they are coming in from the ocean. We also caught our first flounder of the season. Thanks for a fun morning trip guys!
Sunday with Brian and Kyle
This morning Brian and Kyle braved some tough windy conditions. We caught some small Stripers and Trout despite the wind. Kyle had a big Trout pull the hook just as we were going to net him. Thanks for fishing hard on a tough day guys!
Saturday with Luke
Today Luke Tominelli and friends headed out for some light tackle fishing in the sound. We had much slower action than earlier in the week but we did catch quite a few small Stripers and Speckled Trout. Fun day with some great guys!
Fishing is heating up!
Today John and Sean headed out for an afternoon trip. We were hoping to find some Trout after hooking a few on Tuesday. No Trout but we caught tons of small Stripers with one 22 inch fish and also caught the first Bluefish of the year. Fishing is picking up with the warmer weather!
Rick and Lucky
Rick and his friend “Lucky” enjoyed a beautiful spring day on the Sneaky today. We caught lots of small stripers on fly and spin tackle. We also hooked a few trout with one nice keeper and lost two others that were much bigger. First good sign of Speckled Trout this spring on the Outer Banks!
Randy and Aaron from Charlottesvile Va
Randy and Aaron took
the boys out for a fun day on the Sneaky today. As it turns out Aaron is an old friend from way back that plays guitar for the band Indecision out of Charlottesville Va. He’s one of the best guitar players in Va and it was great to catch up with him. We went looking for last weeks Blow Toads but only caught one Black Drum where the Puffers were. Later on we found a big school of small Stripers and had some good action casting light tackle to them. Still no sign of Trout Drum or Flounder but they should be showing up soon. Wednesday afternoon trip with the Reis family
Craig Ries and his family had a really fun day on the Sneaky today. We started off casting for some small stripers then went bottomfishing. The Blow Toads were very hungry and we had non stop action with a few Sea Mullets mixed in. On the way back we got a great show from a pod of Dolphins chasing baitfish. The kids had a blast and won the contest they had with the grownups. Great job guys!
Easter Sunday
Terry and John kicked off the 2016 season on Easter Sunday. We found a school of small stripers and caught several but they were too small to keep. We went looking for some meat and found some Blow Toads biting. They are some of the best eating fish around and are commonly called “chicken of the sea”. We braved some tough conditions on a chilly breezy rainy day but these guys fished hard throughout our afternoon trip. As the water temps rise we should have a lot more options soon. Thanks guys!

Thanksgiving Week
The Striper bite is still on but fishing slowed a bit this week due to the full moon. We still caught tons of fish but keepers have been harder to come by since they have been feeding in the moonlight. Hunter Major caught tons of throwback Stripers on ultralight tackle 4lb test. He also caught a couple flounders with one beautiful keeper. Great job Hunter! Fishing should improve over the next couple of weeks as we get away from this moon and the water cools off a bit more.
Stripers are biting!
Today Jim Genova brought the family down for our first Striper trip of the season. We decided to try casting light tackle at them first instead of trolling. Turned out to be a good move and we had a triple header right off the bat! The bite was steady for the first hour but slowed down after that. We tried a different area and found a huge school of little ones and had fun with them for a while then went back where we started and got a couple more keepers. We ended up with 11 keepers from 18.5 to 22 inches and about 25-30 throwbacks. Not too bad for a morning trip but the Striper bite should just get better as we head into November. Thanks guys!
Albacore Trout Blues and Sharks
Last week was a bit slow business wise but we did encounter quite a few species. Tried for the big Drum a couple trips but just had bad timing and no luck. We did catch a few Blacktip, Sandbar and small Spinner sharks, tons of small Grey Trout, lots of nice Bluefish and a few False Albacore all on light tackle. Thanks for the business Guys!
September 30th
Yesterday Mike, Nicholas and their father in law/grandfather from Russia (no idea how to spell his name) had a fun day catching grey trout, bluefish, spot, pigfish and skates. Today Dan and Dennis had much slower fishing but we did catch small speckled trout and a really nice flounder casting jigs. They even made up some “Sneaky Classic” T shirts for the trip. Week of September 24th
This week has been tough with high winds and rain from a low pressure system off the coast. Drum fishing has been fair and there are still a few Spanish around. Ready for some pretty weather next week.
September16th
This morning Zach was back. We had a slow morning but we did catch a small Cobia and a Mahi Mahi with some finicky Ribbonfish in the mix. This afternoon Tom and his family had a great catch of Spanish Mackerel after making a pretty good run up the beach. Donna caught this nice False Albacore on Saturday. Thanks Guys!
September 11th
Today Mike Brick took his second trip on the Sneaky this week. We started off with some excellent Red Drum fishing. Mike caught at least 10 and he even let me reel one in! After we had enough fun with the Drum we looked around and found Albacores busting bait. Mike caught 2 on his own light spinning rod and while he was fighting his second one they swarmed around the boat so I threw out my trout rod and we caught a double header. Thanks for letting me reel in a couple today Mike, that was a blast!
Matt Fulcher
Matt Fulcher and his crew had a fun day. We started off looking for Spanish but only caught a few. Later on we saw the Albacores busting and managed to catch some on spin tackle. They are awesome fighters on light tackle and great bait! Thanks Guys!
Last couple days
Sorry for the lack of reports lately, business really slowed down last week with the kids going back to school. Back at it this week with good Mackerel fishing the last couple days. Today Brent, David and Ian had a good catch. We tried for a Cobia after catching all the Macs they wanted but never saw one. Jean sent me a pic of Mikes nice Mack and we also had a couple Shark bites Yesterday. Thanks Guys!
The Earp Family
Today was a special day. Had my old friends Barbara and Ray Earp out on the Sneaky with their two sons. We caught some very nice Red Drum to start the trip and the boys did a great job fighting them. After that we went looking for some Trout but never could get on them. We did catch some really nice Spot, a few Sea Mullets, Croaker, pigfish and a couple tiny Flounder. First quality time I’ve spent with Ray and Barb since playing at their wedding 14 years ago. Thanks guys!

Josh Rex Sue and James had a slow but fun day on friday. We fished hard in the windy conditions and came up with a variety of fish including Red Drum Spanish Mackerel Grey Trout Pufferfish Croaker and Pigfish. Thanks for fishing hard on a tough day guys!
Joe and Jack
Had Joe and Jack aboard today for a morning trip. We tried hard for the Drum but couldn’t find them so we headed out for some Ribbonfish action. They were finicky today but we caught a decent amount with Jack catching the most. Nice job Jack!
Captain Andy
Today Andy Juan Jose and Jamie headed out on the Sneaky for a morning trip. We found a huge school of Red Drum and enjoyed some great sight casting to 30-34 inch fish on trout rods. Andy really wanted to catch a shark so we headed out a little deeper and put out the chum bag. Andy ended up catching 2 Sharpnose sharks! Thanks for a fun morning guys. Great to be back on the Sneaky after some slow Marlin fishing at the VBBT on the Double B.
This morning the Sorah family headed out on the Sneaky with slick calm conditions. We started out catching Red Drum about as fast as we could get baits in the water. After releasing a couple each we headed out to look for something different. We found False albacores, Moonfish, Ribbonfish, Sharks and Spanish Mackerel tearing up the water. We had bad luck with the Spanish getting away but we landed one out of two Albacores on trout rods with 8lb braid plus plenty of Moons, Ribbons and a Shark. Heading to Va Beach for the VBBT the rest of the week then back on the Sneaky monday.
August 16th with Doug
Doug and his crew had a beautiful day to fish on the Sneaky. The seas were so calm that we decided to head out to a wreck to try for some Amberjack. We hooked 3 but only got one to the boat. After that we headed out a little further and found a sulfur slick that was holding a few Mahi Mahi. We caught a dozen on trout rods before calling it a day. Dolphin on trout rods is always a blast. Thanks guys, look forward to fishing with you again!
Nick’s Birthday
Back on the Sneaky today after doing the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament this week. This morning Alex Melvin and his family had fun catching sharks. Ben hooked one while he was feeding a bait back. This afternoon Jeff took his son Nick out for his birthday. Nick caught Red Drum, Dolphin, Sharks, Croakers, Flounder and Pigfish. We had a fun day. Happy Birthday Nick!
